How to get and farm Coal in Palworld

The good stuff.

Palworld, being a survival crafting game, spawns many resources like Coal that you need to craft essential items. Coal is vital for crafting firearms, which you need to defeat or weaken your foes in mid-to-late game. Here’s everything to know about how to get Coal in Palworld.

What is Coal used for in Palworld?

In Palworld, you need Coal to craft Refined Ingots, a crafting ingredient for firearms like the Assault Rifle, Shotgun, and Rocket Launcher. But, you must reach level 34 and build an Improved Furnace in your base to craft Refined Ingots.

How to get Coal in Palworld

To get Coal in Palworld, you must mine Coal nodes in the desert. The desert is the northern region marked on the map. You can mine Coal from the big, black rocks that spawn there, as seen in our image above.

Before going on a quest to find Coal in the desert, craft Heat Resistant Armor. Additionally, you must have strong tools like a Metal Pickaxe to mine the Coal from a rock.

Tip: Prepare for a long journey!

It’ll be a long journey, so make sure you have enough space in your inventory to bring lots of Coal back to your base, as you need a lot of it to make Refined Ore.

The desert biome is also where the powerful Pal Anubis can spawn, and you can find many other important resources there too, like High-Quality Pal Oil.

Coal location in Palworld

You can find Coal in the desert biome in Palworld. To distinguish a chunk of Coal, look for stones of matte black color. You’ll usually find them in clumps with other Coal nodes. Even with a metal pickaxe, they usually only drop a few pieces at a time, so it’s a time-consuming grind.

We found a place where a bunch of Coal spawned and dropped a Palbox in the middle of all the nodes, so we had an easy way to teleport between the Coal and our base to make the process smoother. But, if you already have the maximum number of bases set up, prepare for a long walk.

How to make a Coal Farm in Palworld

To create a coal farm in Palworld, find an area with lots of coal nodes around it, build a base there, and populate it with Pals that have the mining ability, the same way you would for an ore farm.

Here’s what you need to build a Coal farming base:

Here are some good Pals for mining to keep at the base:

Tip:

There are several excellent mining farm locations in Twilight Dunes. Just make sure the Pals you pick have the Transporting ability.

How to make a Coal Mine in Palworld

Palworld’s Sakurajima update added Coal Mines, which you can place in your base. You can assign Pals with Mining skills to a Coal site to have a constant supply of the resource.

To unlock a Coal Mine in Palworld, reach Level 53 first. Once you reach the required level, go to the Technology tab and use one Ancient Technology Point to unlock it. Next, you need to source the ingredients required to build a Coal Mine, which are:

  1. 70x Stone
  2. 100x Coal
  3. 30x Paldium Fragment

You can use the farming methods mentioned in previous sections to get the Coal required for the Coal Mine. Once the mine is established in your base, you don’t have to worry about having a separate Coal Farm or going on quests to farm the resource.
So, there you have it. You know everything you need to know about getting and farming Coal in Palworld. Enjoy!
